Time - where does it go?
Memories of chores and activities in getting ready to embark for the Magic Kingdom seem like a few months ago, but now, looking at three years that have passed since those events..........
Now looking at the activities required to leave - almost as daunting in some ways as what was needed in preparing to come here.
After this weekend there will be only 8 planned weeks of work left before we have our "exit only" designation put into our passports. Yes that final masalama (or goodbye) is looming on the near horizon after so many have taken place for a number of our other expat friends and colleagues during this tour of duty. Soon it will be our turn.
The expat life here is a transient experience, knowing that it is but a short side trip in our life journey, none of us expecting or wishing any long term commitment. We have met many wonderful people from many parts of the world, had the opportunity to visit some interesting places, had our share of mini adventures, and have had the satisfaction of having had some significant professional experiences.
Yes we have had our moments of frustration, many times we have contemplated "packing it in", but in enduring we have accepted that life is full of stones in the road, and that taking this road, for this period of time, has made a significant positive entry into our life story.
Although we at times have also contemplated remaining for the full five years of the skipper's contractual offer, it was never a serious goal. Yes it would have certain advantages in expanding on what we had accomplished, but realizing where we are in years, in our life journey, that "home", family, and friends are more important. It is time. Time to begin a new segment of the life journey.
So with these thoughts this will likely be the last Blog Posting from the Magic Kingdom - to be continued on our return home.
Early morning, looking East, from our apartment balcony.
Early evening, looking west from our apartment balcony, towards the Corniche & Red Sea.
Fireworks seen from our apartment balcony - a time for celebration.
Time to walk to the local Starbucks before I embark on the day's sorting and packing.
Masalama (for now) from Walden's crew.
